  1. Install the app: Car Scanner ELM OBD2

Download the app from the Apple App Store. Check the name and icon carefully – there are many copycat apps with subscription traps.

  2. Plug the adapter into the OBD2 port.

The 16-pin port is usually in the driver’s footwell, below the steering wheel – sometimes behind a small cover or in the centre console. As soon as the adapter is plugged in, the blue LED lights up.

    OBD2 port

Push it in firmly. The LED sometimes lights up before all contacts are seated. Feel free to press the adapter in a little harder.

  3. Switch on the ignition.

The engine does not need to run. For cars with a start button: press the button once or twice without pressing the brake pedal.

  4. Turn on Bluetooth – but don’t pair.

Open Settings › Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on. “VEEPEAK” appears under “Other Devices” – please don’t tap it. The app handles the connection.

Already tapped it and saw “not supported” – or VEEPEAK has disappeared? Restart the iPhone once and the adapter will be back.

From experienceThis is by far the most common reason when “nothing works”. Restarting the iPhone almost always fixes it.

  5. Connect in the app.

Open Car Scanner ELM OBD2 and allow access to Bluetooth when the app asks. Then:

    Settings›Connection›Connection type›Bluetooth LE (4.0+)
    Device›VEEPEAK

Go back to the home screen and tap “Connect”.

Message “Connection problems … Wi-Fi … local network”? Then the connection type is still set to Wi-Fi. Switch to Bluetooth LE – done.

  6. Connected. Let’s go.

Read and clear fault codes, watch live data or build your own dashboard.

The adapter only connects to one app at a time. Close other OBD apps before trying a new one.
