Help & FAQ
How can we help?
Adapter & car
The adapter doesn’t light up (no blue LED)
- Push the adapter firmly into the port.
- Check the cigarette lighter fuse – the OBD2 port is often on the same fuse.
- Try it in another vehicle for comparison.
- Port is fine but the adapter stays dark? Then get in touch with us.
The adapter doesn’t fit into the port
- The plug is trapezoid-shaped and only fits one way round.
- Sometimes there is a plastic cover in front of the port.
- Look out for bent pins in the port or on the adapter.
No connection to the vehicle / control unit (ECU)
- Push the adapter in a little harder – “LED on” doesn’t mean all contacts are seated.
- Ignition on or start the engine.
- Is the vehicle compatible? → Vehicle check
- Does the app support your vehicle? Try a different connection profile if needed.
- Test it in another car – that tells you whether it’s the adapter or the vehicle.
Phone & Bluetooth
iPhone shows “not supported” for VEEPEAK
It’s not a defect. The message appears when you tap the adapter in the iOS Bluetooth settings. With Bluetooth LE that is neither necessary nor intended.
- Restart the iPhone – VEEPEAK then reappears under “Other Devices”.
- Don’t tap anything in the settings.
- Open the app, choose Bluetooth LE as the connection type and connect there → Guide
VEEPEAK doesn’t appear in the Bluetooth list
- Is the adapter still connected to another phone or tablet? Disconnect it there.
- Restart the phone, turn Bluetooth off and on, wait a few seconds.
- iPhone: the adapter must appear in the app – it isn’t needed in the settings.
Android: pairing fails
- Turn Bluetooth off and on, try pairing several times.
- Restart the phone, turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data, disconnect other Bluetooth devices.
- Android 13+: Settings › Apps › Battery usage › show system apps › Bluetooth › “Unrestricted”. Do the same for Bluetooth Legacy.
- Clear the Bluetooth cache: Settings › Apps (show system) › Bluetooth › Storage & cache › clear, then restart.
- Easiest: choose “Bluetooth LE” in Car Scanner, OBD Fusion or Torque – then no pairing is needed at all.
Android: only “paired” or “saved”, not “connected”
That’s normal. If pairing worked, just open the app and connect there – don’t tap VEEPEAK again. In Torque, select “VEEPEAK” in the app right afterwards (use “BLE Scan” if needed).
Android car radio (head unit) won’t connect
The adapter is designed for phones and tablets. Many aftermarket head units don’t support the required Bluetooth profiles, so there is no compatibility list. Check in the radio whether a PIN is active and set to 1234.
App connection
The app can’t find the adapter (“ELM connection failed”)
- Right app? → Recommended apps
- Correct connection type: iPhone = Bluetooth LE, Android = Bluetooth (or Bluetooth LE). Never Wi-Fi.
- Permission granted? iPhone: Bluetooth. Android: Nearby devices.
- Close other OBD apps – the adapter only connects to one app.
- Delete and reinstall the app, especially after a system update.
- Cross-check with a second free app (Car Scanner or Infocar).
Car Scanner says “Connection problems … Wi-Fi / local network”
The connection type is set to Wi-Fi – but the adapter has no Wi-Fi. Solution:
Then tap Device and choose VEEPEAK.
The connection drops while driving
- Keep the phone as close to the adapter as possible.
- Close other apps, turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Update the app or try a different one.
The app asks for a purchase or subscription
Do you have the right app (exact name, e.g. “Car Scanner ELM OBD2”)? Copycats often ask for a subscription straight away → list of copycats.
Some genuine apps cost money (OBD Fusion, BimmerCode, BimmerLink, JScan) or need a subscription (Carista, OBDocker). For questions about payment or installation, please contact the app developer.
Diagnostics & use
Connected, but no data appears
Fully close and restart the app, or briefly unplug and reconnect the adapter. If that doesn’t help: try another app.
Warning light is on, but no fault codes found
Standard apps only read the engine. If the ABS or airbag light is on, or the fault is stored in another control unit, you need a brand-specific app → App finder.
Fault codes can’t be cleared
- Try several times, ideally with ignition on, engine off.
- Some faults only disappear once the cause has been fixed – otherwise they come straight back.
- Some vehicles don’t respond to the standard clear command.
My vehicle model is missing in the app
Apps don’t always update their lists immediately. The standard OBD2 functions still work – choose a similar model or enter it manually.
BimmerCode: “Error reading coding data”
Set the data transfer speed to “Slow” in the BimmerCode settings. Also: airplane mode + Bluetooth on, Wi-Fi off, CarPlay disabled, phone disconnected in iDrive.
Frequently asked questions
Is an app included?
No. You need an OBD2 app from the App Store or Google Play. To get started we recommend Car Scanner ELM OBD2 or Infocar – both are free for basic features.
Does the adapter work with iPhone and iPad?
Yes, via Bluetooth LE. Important: don’t pair it in the iOS settings – connect directly in the app.
Does the adapter have Wi-Fi?
No, Bluetooth only (LE and classic). So never set “Wi-Fi” as the connection type in the app.
Which vehicles are supported?
In the EU and UK: cars with a petrol engine from 2001 and diesel from 2004 for all standard OBD2 functions. Not trucks and buses (J1939); for vans please ask first → Vehicle check
Does it work with electric and hybrid cars?
Partly – only with special apps such as Car Scanner (EV profile), EVNotify, LeafSpy Pro, CanZE or ABRP (iOS). Not every model is supported; please check first.
Can I read and clear ABS or airbag faults?
These systems are not part of the OBD2 standard. It’s only possible with a brand-specific app that knows your model (e.g. Carista, OBD Fusion, BimmerLink, JScan). Usually not on older vehicles without CAN bus.
Can I reset the oil service indicator?
Usually not. Service resets are manufacturer-specific and not possible with generic OBD2 adapters.
Read DPF values or start a regeneration?
DPF values only on some vehicles with special apps (VAG DPF or Carista for the VW group, BimmerLink for BMW from 2008). A regeneration is usually not possible and normally requires workshop equipment.
Can I read the transmission temperature?
Only on some vehicles, because the value is manufacturer-specific. Options: OBD Fusion (User-defined PIDs › Import built-in PIDs – GM & Ford), Torque Pro (Extra PIDs › Add predefined set) or Car Scanner with a profile that has “AT/CVT” in its name.
Does it work with motorcycles?
With some models that use standard OBD2 and a suitable app. BMW motorcycles: MotoScan (diagnostics and sensor data only, no service reset). An adapter cable is often needed.
Can the adapter stay plugged in permanently?
A few days are no problem if the battery is in good shape and the car is driven regularly. If it stands for more than a week, please unplug the adapter.
Can I use several apps at the same time?
No, only one at a time. Fully close the previous app before opening another one.
Is it a bi-directional scan tool?
No. Component activation, relearn and reset functions or key programming are not possible.
What’s the difference between the BLE and the BLE+?
The BLE+ uses the newer ELM327 command set v2.2 (BLE: v1.4) and communicates more stably. Whether that gives you extra features depends on the vehicle and the app → Comparison
Standard OBD2 or enhanced diagnostics – what’s the difference?
Standard OBD2 is required by law and limited to emissions-related data: standardised fault codes and values like engine speed, vehicle speed or oxygen sensors – the same for every brand.
Enhanced diagnostics covers manufacturer-specific codes and data for the transmission, ABS, airbags, body electronics and more. This requires apps that know the specific manufacturer.
Before you send it back
The two-minute checklist.
Most adapters returned as “faulty” work perfectly – it was a setting. Please go through these points quickly.
